Major Verdict Against Hartford Insurance Involving Illegal Steering Practices
Capping a six-year battle, lawyers for a group of auto body shops won a $14.7 million verdict last week against The Hartford in a rare class action trial that centered on a Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act claim.

ABARI board member Randy Bottella warns that a new scam is being played on repair shops, it goes like this; a call comes in from a merchant or towing company working with the hearing impaired. The scam artists claim that they need to tow their handicapped customer's vehicle to your repair shop, but the catch is that they have to be paid in advance in order to tow the vehicle to your shop. The scammers require a creditcard or wire transfer payment before they will provide the tow. Of course the customer never existed and no job will be arriving!
These criminals are good at their trade and are very convincing. In the future great caution must be taken before processing any towing payments that are suspect. Please report all incidents to ABARI and your local police.
